But first some opening observations..
The UK is full of really REALLY old stuff. Its hard to enter any town and not find some important old building that predates Cook finding Australia by several hundreds of years.
Traffic is everywhere. You simply don't get a chance to drive at your speed/leisure. Cruise controls in a car are completely useless as you never get the chance to sit at one speed for more than a few miles.
Roundabouts....roundabouts....roundabouts....
And now onto to the blog.
Corby - Judith's home town as a teenager.
We found her old (rather humble) home during the day and then met an 'old flame' for a few drinks in the evening. Our accommodation was surprisingly good and great value.
Onward to Lincoln to catchup with another friend from Judith's teen years. And to be pleasantly surprised at Lincoln's offerings. An old (very old) cathedral and castle. Both build around 1100 AD from memory and the cathedral was once the tallest building in the world. It was simply stunningly huge. The castle has had various lives and in the 1800's was a gaol. It also holds one of the original magna carta's.
Then into Bradford to meet Judith's half brother Paul and half sister Janet (who she has never met). We had dinner with them on the Saturday night and then Paul drove us around Bradford, Leeds and Halifax to show us where Judith's mum was brought up. He even took us to the grave of Judith's great grandfather and auntie. Found the pub that Judith's parents had and where she was born. Had a drink here as it was very expensive and the publican was not one bit interested that we had come a long way to look at the pub and that Judith was born here. A wonderful few days and great to catch up with them.
Now....onward to York and then Scotland!
